In a letter addressed to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswami has asked for restoration of electricity supply to Mullaperiyar Dam. He has also stated that the water level of the Mullaperiyar dam will not be reduced and it is being stored at the permitted level of 142 ft as per the orders of the Supreme Court.

Edappadi K Palaniswami acknowledged, in the letter, that the Mullaperiyar dam is in safe condition and water is being transferred to the Vaigai basin as much as possible. He has asked for the Kerala government to share data in real-time and allow Tamil Nadu to gauge rainfall in the catchment area.
At national level, the cabinet secretary chaired a high-level meeting to review the flood situation, rescue and relief operations in Kerala following a directive from Prime Minister Modi. The meeting was attended by Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, top officials of the Ministries of Defence, the National Disaster Management Authority and the NDRF.
It was decided that the Chairman of the Central Water Commission will monitor the situation at the Mullaperiyar dam in Kerala in view of the rising water level and continued heavy inflow.

Meanwhile, the Supreme court has agreed to hear plea seeking Centre's intervention to mediate between Kerala and Tamil Nadu on issue of rising water in Mullaperiyar.
