Flights disrupted from Schiphol due to air traffic control, Amsterdam airport closed

It was mentioned in the airport’s official Twitter page on Wednesday that there will be no incoming and outgoing flight at their airport, while air traffic control was investigating this matter. The passengers will remain updated and were asked to check their current flight status on the website and app.

It was reported by media that the issues was mostly due to the problem with air traffic control systems. Problems started shortly after 1pm and after 2pm the Schiphol airport made announcement that the local time departures from the airport were resuming ‘slowly’ and  a ‘limited’ number of incoming flights were unable to land.

After a short delay with the help of a backup system the planes that were cleared to land were able to do so.

The airport urged passengers to check the website for further updates and the Schiphol’s website already showed dozens of arrivals and departures were delayed.

Around 2.30 pm the airport mentioned that the air traffic control system was stable. However, it warned that it would be taking some time before services were running as scheduled again.

An investigation into the cause of the issue was launched by LVNL, authority responsible of air traffic control with Dutch airspace.

LVNL, the authority in charge of air traffic control within Dutch airspace, said it had launched an investigation into the cause of the issue.

After London Heathrow and Charles De Gaulle in Paris, Schilphol is the largest airport in The Netherlands and the third-busiest in Europe.
