Car and AR: Apple's next 'big' bets
While products like iPhone, iPad or the MacBook are the growth drivers for Apple, it has been looking to widen its scope in the sphere of technology. Over the last few years we have seen how Apple has been quietly yet significantly upping the ante in the world of Augmented Reality (AR). Be it the ARKit content in the iPhone/iPad or getting more apps in the App Store, AR seems to be the next big bet for Apple. At least if renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is to be believed.

According to 9to5Mac, Kuo has revealed that Apple may launch its AR glasses in the next two years. As we mentioned above the focus on AR in Apple products has been on the rise in the last couple of years and AR glasses could be the next step. It isn’t clear how and when Apple wil launch or implement its AR glasses but Kuo has a good track record with Apple’s ‘insider’ information.

If you think AR wasn’t ‘exciting’ enough then Kuo shared another interesting nugget of information which pertains to the Apple Car. Yes, we have been hearing rumours for years now about Apple Car but that’s all there has been to it: rumours. Kuo, however, believes that we might just see the arrival of Apple Car by 2023-25. Now it’s a slightly vague timeline but Kuo has said that Apple sees the auto sector having huge potential thanks to the new technologies that are emerging in the industry. Interestingly, Kuo has also revealed that we might see the implementation of technologies like AR “would redefine cars and differentiate Apple from peers.” According to Kuo, “Apple can do a better integration of hardware, software, and service than current competitors in the consumer electronics sector and potential competitors in the auto sector.”

While it’s way too early to say what Apple will do in the auto industry or whether it will do anything or not as well. However, the auto industry will be a totally different ball game and it will certainly be interesting to see how the Cupertino-based tech giant deals with it. As of now, the next month or so will be all about the new iPhones as we are getting closer and closer to the launch.
