Desilting of canals and strengthening of bunds under way in Tiruvannamalai

Tiruvannamalai Collector K.S. Kandasamy inspected work taken up under the ‘kudimaramathu’ scheme on two waterbodies in the Thandrampet taluk on Tuesday.

According to a press release, renovation of tanks with the participation of farmers was being taken up under the scheme across the State.

In Tiruvannamalai district, 32 projects were taken up at a cost of ₹ eight crore, which would benefit 3,883 farmers having 2,753 hectares of land. Under this, desilting of canals and strengthening of bunds are being done.

The Collector inspected the ongoing work at Melsirupakkam Eri in Thandrampet taluk.

The work taken up at a cost of ₹18.50 lakh included strengthening of bund, desilting of canal and repair of sluices.

He also inspected work taken up at a cost of ₹30 lakh at Keezvanakkampadi Eri, including repair of three sluices and desilting of four canals.
