Valparai landslide kills TNEB assistant engineer

COIMBATORE: A 36-year-old assistant engineer working with Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB), who was inspecting repair work after a landslide near Sholayar power house in Valparai, died in another landslide in the area on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Vigneshwaran, a native of Madurai.

Police said Vigneshwaran and contract laborers Rajesh, Thiruvenkatam and Balakrishnan reached the landslide spot in a vehicle to clear debris.

When they finished clearing the debris, another landslide happened on the same spot, uprooting a huge tree. The contract labourers and the driver of the vehicle managed to flee the spot. But Vigneshwaran was trapped under the tree and died.

Woman dies

A 40-year-old woman, a resident of Manampalli, drowned as her house was submerged in water. Police identified the deceased as Velankani.
