The scenic splendour of the rejuvenated Lakaram tank is all set to be further enhanced with the government agencies concerned devising a plan to create recreational facilities and add new attractions to the site to make it a popular holiday hotspot.
After being neglected for decades, the tank, dating back to the Kakatiya era, got a new lease of life earlier this year following its revival under Mission Kakatiya.
The construction of a circular-shaped tank bund around the water body and introduction of boating facilities has made the picturesque spot a preferred weekend getaway for many.
The encouraging response to the boating facility has prompted the agencies concerned to chart out an ambitious plan to create an amusement park, construct an open auditorium and set up a birds’ enclosure on the sprawling expanse of the tank, sources said. The proposed plan is expected to be implemented in public-private-partnership mode, the sources added.
The move is aimed at tapping the enormous demand for proper recreational facilities amid scenic surroundings, preferred by people of all ages, especially children, said an official, who is entrusted with the task of drawing up the final blueprint for the ambitious plan. Minister for Roads and Buildings T. Nageswara Rao and Khammam MLA P. Ajay Kumar are taking keen interest in creating recreational facilities for children at the spot and transform the entire stretch of the tank into a popular picnic destination, he said.
