High swell waves and heavy wind are likely to batter the Kerala coast till Friday 11.30 p.m.
Weathermen at the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad, Telangana, have predicted waves, which can climb to the height of 4 metres, till Friday. Heavy wind, which may gather a speed up to 65 km/hr are also likely to blow over the seas, which can turn the sea rough.
The combination of gusty wind and the high swell waves together can turn the sea extremely rough, cautioned T.M. Balakrishnan Nair, Head, Ocean Information and Forecast Services Group, INCOIS.
The lethal combination of heavy wind and high swell waves are capable of destabilising vessels. Once caught in the melee, the vessels may turn upside down. The recent accidents in Kerala waters which claimed a few lives were supposedly caused by the deadly combination, he said.
The high wave and wind warning were issued for Kerala, Nicobar and Lakshadweep Island.
Similar alerts have also been issued for Maharashtra, Odisha, Goa, Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
INCOIS has cautioned “strong winds mainly from Westerly direction speed occasionally reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 60 kmph likely along and off Karnataka coast, North Kerala coast and over Lakshadweep area. Strong winds from Westerly direction speed occasionally reaching 35 to 45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph are likely along and off south Kerala coast,” the alert message said.
Weathermen advised fishermen not to venture out in the sea adjoining Karnataka, North Kerala coasts, Lakshadweep area and Southwest and central Arabian sea.
