Symbiosis to organize 5th Suresh Tendulkar Memorial lecture

PUNE: Symbiosis School of Economics (SSE) will organise the fifth Suresh Tendulkar Memorial Lecture (STML) on August 16. The lecture will be given by Maitreesh Ghatak, Professor of Economics, London School of Economics (2004- present) at 11:30 am in Vishwabhavan auditorium at Senapati Bapat road.

This year's lecture will be on the topic 'Why is Poverty Persistent?' Some of the previous lectures were delivered by Subir Gokarn (Ex Deputy Governor of RBI), Mahendra Dev (Director, IGIDR), Bibek Debroy (Member Niti Aayog) etc.

The lecture series is in honor of Dr Suresh Tendulkar, an eminent Indian economist who has served as the Director of the Delhi School of Economics (1995-98), the Chief of National Statistical Commission, the Chairman of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council (2008- 2009), the Chairman of the Expert Group to review the methodology for the estimation of poverty (2009), etc.

'Maitreesh Ghatak is a Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics. He is an applied microeconomic theorist with research interests in economic development, public economics, and the economics of organizations. His research interests include microfinance, property rights, occupational choice, collective action, and the economics of NGOs. Recently, in July 2018, Ghatak was elected Fellow of the British Academy (FBA),' says the notification released by the Symbiosis.
