Minister for Women and Child Welfare Jaimala visited the flood-affected areas at Uppoor village near Brahmavar in Udupi district on Wednesday. She visited K.G. Road, Kudrubettu and Herebettu areas and spoke to those who had been affected by the floods. She assured them that the district administration would help them. She urged them to contact the local authorities if they needed any help. The administration was keeping a watch on the flood-affected areas, she said.
She also visited the Government Higher Primary School at Herebettu in Uppoor and inspected the situation there. She directed Tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar to give priority to the safety of school students. She also told the officers to ensure that people did not face any food shortage in the flood-affected areas. They should also evacuate the people to safety if it was necessary, she said.
Ms. Jaimala also visited Alvekodi at Shiroor village near Byndoor and inspected the damage caused to boats of the fishermen there. The fishermen explained the loss suffered by them in detail and urged the Minister to release compensation under natural calamities fund.
While visiting the flood-affected areas, Ms. Jaimala learnt that there was no toilet in the house of a woman, Sampa Poojary. She enquired with Sampa Poojary and her son. When Ms. Poojary said that she was too poor to build a toilet, Ms. Jaimala directed the Tahsildar to get a toilet constructed in Ms. Poojary’s house without any delay after the floods receded.
President of Uppoor Gram Panchayat Arati, Sarala Kanchan, Shalini Purandar, Jayasri Krishnaraj, Chandrika Shetty, Ramesh Kundar, Ramesh Karkera, Shalini Purandar, Congress leaders, and Deputy Director of Women and Child Welfare Gracy Gonsalves were present.
