Former Zim first lady's grave 'abandoned' as Mugabes 'snub heroes day celebrations' – report
Zimbabwean former president Robert Mugabe's late wife Sally and his sister Sabina's graves were reportedly "abandoned" after "no single relative appeared to have turned up to visit them" on Monday during the country's Heroes Day celebrations.
The two graves, according to New Zimbabwe. com, used to be the "centre of attraction" during the annual National Heroes' Day commemorations presided over by the now ousted leader.
Thousands of Zimbabweans gathered at the country's national shrine the Heroes Acre in Harare on Monday, as they celebrated the men and women who fought for the liberation of Zimbabwe, SABC reported.

Zim: Mnangagwa files opposing papers to MDC's election challenge
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly filed his opposing papers to the Movement for Democratic Change Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa's petition challenging his victory in the just ended elections.
According to the state-owned Herald newspaper, Mnangagwa's lead defence counsel, Advocate Lewis Uriri confirmed on Monday that the opposing papers had been filed at the Constitutional Court.
The MDC last week lodged a court bid to overturn the results of presidential elections that it alleged were rigged to ensure victory for Mnangagwa.

New Amnesty International leader's 1st move targets Zimbabwe
Amnesty International's new leader said on Wednesday his first act is writing to Zimbabwe's next president about the disappearance of activist Itai Dzamara: "Whoever leads the new government must move to undo the injustices of the past."
Kumi Naidoo, a South African-born former anti-apartheid activist, took office as secretary general of the London-based rights group on Wednesday.
His focus on Dzamara, who was abducted by suspected state agents in 2015 under Zimbabwe's former leader Robert Mugabe, puts further pressure on the government of President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa, Mugabe's former enforcer, to acknowledge past abuses.

Zim elections: MDC's legal challenge 'has little chance of success'
Zimbabwe's ruling Zanu-PF party on Wednesday filed a counter-petition challenging the opposition's court bid to overturn election results that gave a narrow victory to incumbent Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Zanu-PF submitted its papers to the Constitutional Court, which is considering an appeal by the opposition MDC party alleging that the election was rigged in favour of Mnangagwa, Robert Mugabe's former vice president.
The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has accused Zanu-PF and the election commission of ballot fraud in the July 30 vote, Zimbabwe's first poll since the ousting of Mugabe in November.

Zim President Mnangagwa wants court to toss opposition challenge
Lawyers representing Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa have filed papers urging the country's Constitutional Court to throw out an opposition challenge to his disputed election.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has said Mnangagwa and the ruling Zanu-PF party won the July 30 election in this politically and economically troubled southern African country's first election without former long-time ruler Robert Mugabe on the ballot.
The electoral commission said Mnangagwa received 50.8% of the vote and main challenger Nelson Chamisa received 44.3%.

Nigerian soldiers protest as Boko Haram attacks surge
Disillusioned and exhausted, Nigerian troops battling a surge in Boko Haram jihadist attacks have reached breaking point, protesting less than six months before presidential polls.
The Nigerian army dismissed it as a "misunderstanding", but on Sunday hundreds of soldiers protested in the airport of Maiduguri, the capital of restive northeast Borno state, for several hours, shooting into the air and disrupting flights.
They were furious about a planned redeployment to a battlefront in the remote Lake Chad region after fighting Boko Haram jihadists for years without relief.
