Aamir Khan isn’t someone who makes big proclamations of love for wife Kiran Rao, nor does he even talk about his personal life much, but it looks like the actor is finally letting his guard down. At a recent interaction with Chinese media, Aamir talked about Kiran, how they fell for each other, his relationship with his ex-wife and how his eccentricities make Kiran love him even more.

“I met Kiran when I was doing Lagaan. She was one of the ADs (assistant directors) on that but at that time, we didn’t have any relationship, we were not even great friends. She was one of the people on the unit. It was after my separation and divorce after some time that I met her again,” he told the interviewer. “In that moment of trauma, her phone came and I talked to her on the phone for half an hour. And when I put the phone down, I said, ‘My God! I feel so happy when I talk to her.’ It struck me in that instant that when I am talking to her I am so happy,” he added.

After that phone call, Aamir and Kiran began dating and even lived together for more than a year before they got married in 2005, three years after his separation from first wife, Reena Dutta. “I can never imagine a life without Kiran as my partner. I feel very blessed and I am very grateful in my life... she is a wonderful person and I am very lucky to have her in my life,” he said.

When asked if he likes strong women, Aamir agreed and gave the example of Reena as well. “She is a wonderful person as well. Sometimes a relationship doesn’t work but I have a lot of love and respect for her. In fact, we are working together on this Paani project. She is the COO of the company,” he said about Reena.

Aamir also talked about how Kiran tackles his ‘Mr perfectionist’ side. “It has taken me a lot of time to come to terms with the fact that I am a very self obsessed person. When I am doing Thugs of Hindostan or I am doing Dangal, that film is taking so much of my attention and focus and I am so sharply into that, that my family is not in focus. Kiran told me this about a year ago. She said, ‘You know, actually you are not interested in us but I am not sure it is such a bad thing,’” Aamir told the interviewer.

Aamir says he has made a change in his time table and spends until 8pm with his son, Azad and holds all his meetings after Azad goes to sleep.
