BJP to get alternative plot in Gurugram Sector 30 for district party office

The BJP, which was on a backfoot after the residents of Silokhra opposed the construction of district party office in village revenue estate, is likely to get a plot in Sector 30, along the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway for the building. A proposal for allotting a plot has been prepared and the same is likely to be sent to the chief administrator, Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), earlier known as Huda, for approval. The party had, on August 3, written to the urban development authority for allotment of an alternative plot after the continued protest by Silokhra locals started to gain political traction.

Huda officials, who did not wish to be named, said that a proposal has been readied to allot a plot in Sector 30. The authority owns around five acres of land in the sector, close to the national highway, which can be developed for residential or commercial purpose, officials said. Out of this patch of land, the authority plans to allot one acre land to the ruling party, which faced stiff opposition from Silokhra residents who demanded that the allotted land should instead be used for building a community hall, a village pond and other facilities for common use.

The proposed plot of land was acquired by Huda in 1994. “This land does not have any encumbrance or legal issues. A proposal for getting this site planned has been sent to the town and country planning department, after which it would be sent to the headquarters in Chandigarh for final approval,” a Huda official said on the condition of anonymity.

Sources said that earlier, the authority had planned to allot a plot in Sector 33 to the BJP, but the party officials were not enthusiastic about the proposal.

When asked about the matter, BJP leaders said that they were yet to receive a proposal from the Huda. “We had requested the authority for an alternative plot, but are waiting for the proposal. The party had bought the plot at market price, as per government policy. We are yet to get any intimation,” said GL Sharma, senior BJP leader and member of the party’s building construction committee.

On October 14, 2016, the BJP was allotted an acre of land in Silokhra village for building its district office. However, the allotment was opposed by Silokhra residents, who alleged that land they sold to Huda was meant for a village pond and other community facilities. The locals initiated a movement against the construction of BJP office demanding that the government first fulfil their demands.

Sensing that the issue was snowballing into a political dispute, the BJP, on August 3, wrote to the Huda asking for an alternate site after, which set the new process in motion.
