The Rs 300 crore
heroin seizure off the Salaya coast in Saurashtra on Sunday is just the tip of the
iceberg, said ATS officials on Tuesday. Following the interrogation of Aziz Abdul Bhagad and Arif Adam Sumra, who were arrested in connection with interception of 5 kg heroin, it has now come to light that 300 kg heroin consignment worth Rs 1,000 crore has already passed through
Gujarat using the sea route.
Revealing details of how money changed hands, officials said drug dealers in India sent money to Pakistan via
Singapore, Dubai, Thailand and
Australia to avert Indian intelligence agencies like RAW. The consignment used to be dispatched from Pakistan using sea route and changed boats in international waters, about 90 nautical miles (167 km) from Indian coast. From there the contraband was brought to India in small fishing boats sailing under Indian flag to avoid detection by Indian coastguard patrols.
