Every day, thousands of people commute between Bengaluru and Hosur for work. A majority are dependent on two trains that run between Yeshwantpur and Hosur. However, not only are the services insufficient, the trains are never on time, say commuters.
To get the attention of South Western Railway (SWR), a few rail commuters are organising a Chuku Buku Yatra on August 25 from Hebbal to Hosur.
“The SWR had introduced two new DEMU trains from Banaswadi to Hosur three months ago, but cancelled them citing track maintenance work. During the yatra, we will be raising a demand to increase the number of trains between Bengaluru and Hosur,” said Krishnaprasad S., member of Karnataka Railway Vedike.
The commuters will also raise the issue about SWR not fully utilising the available double tracks in the city. “We have been asking SWR to introduce a daily MEMU train between Yelahanka and Whitefield where a double track is available, but officials have not obliged. If introduced, thousands of people from north Bengaluru will be able to easily travel to Whitefield,” he said.
After the yatra, participants plan to submit a memorandum to SWR officials.
