With the objective of promoting and preserving the age old tradition of matoli frames, and dekhawa presentation on scenes from the historical and mythological stories, the Directorate of Art & Culture every year organises the All Goa Matoli and Dekhawa Competitions during Ganesh Chaturthi, celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm in Goa.

Like always, the competitions will be organised at the state level. The Matoli decoration competition will be for individual households and will be conducted from the third day to the sixth day of Ganesh Chaturthi Festival (September 15 to September 18). First place for the competition will be awarded a cash price of Rs15,000; second place Rs 10,000; and third place Rs 7,500. There will be five consolation prizes of Rs 5,000 each.

The Dekhawa presentation competition will be only for Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandals at state-level and will be conducted from the seventh to the tenth day of the Festival (September 19 to September 22). The first prize winner will be awarded Rs 25,000; the second prize Rs 20,000 and third prize Rs 15,000. Also five consolation prizes of Rs 7,000 each will be awarded. However, in absence of significant number of participants, the department reserves the right to cancel the competition.

In view of above, interested household individuals and Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandals are requested to collect the application forms for participating in the competition, from the office of the Directorate of Art and Culture, Sanskruti Bhavan, Patto, Panaji; Ravindra Bhavan, Curchorem; Ravindra Bhavan, Margao; Ravindra Bhavan, Baina Vasco; Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali and Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda from August 13 and submit the duly filled forms by August 30.
