2 dowry deaths in Jspur; hubbies arrested

Two dowry death incidents were reported from two different places in Jagatsinghpur district recently.

In both the cases, police acted promptly and arrested culprits named in the complaints.

In an incident, the half-burnt body of Sunita Sahoo was recovered from her in-laws’ house in Kajipatana village under Khairanga gram panchayat, six km from here, on Sunday night. Sunita had married Guridatta Moharana on December 4, 2013 and was being tortured for ‘inadequate’ dowry. Acting on the complaint of Sunita’s uncle Niranjan Sahoo, the police detained her husband Gurudatta Moharana, father-in-law Purna Chandra Moharana and mother-in-law Sanjukta Moharana, said Jagatsinghpur PS IIC Rajani Kanta Mishra.

The second case occurred in Kurtanga village under Raghunathpur block on Sunday. Sangita Mallick, a newlywed, was found hanging in her room. Sangita had married Jagannath Mallick of Kopala village under Tirtol block on April 25, 2018. During marriage she had brought adequate dowry, On Sunday morning, Jagannath had scolded her over non-fulfillment of dowry. Sangita committed suicide. Acting on a complaint, police arrested Jagannath, said Raghunathpur PS IIC Ranjan Kumar Mallick.
