CHANDIGARH: Haryana chief minister
Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday strongly advocated the idea of assembly elections being held simultaneously with parliamentary elections. While interacting with the media at Rohtak, Khattar said the system would save
energy and resources.
Khattar was on tour of
Sonipat and Rohtak districts. He visited local BJP workers as well.
"There are lot of benefits of this system. Haryana is in favour of this. But this is a statutory decision, hence all opposition parties should decide on this after having detailed discussion. In case of elections being held at different times, you need to put measures in place for the code of conduct again and again. We, in Haryana, favour this move of having both elections together," said the CM.
The parliamentary elections are due in May 2019, while the assembly elections in Haryana are due in October 2019.
Meanwhile, training guns on the opposition parties, Khattar flayed INLD for its statement of stopping Moonak canal from entering Delhi and the promises made by former CM
Bhupinder Singh Hooda of the Congress during his 'Jankranti Yatra'.
"So far as
Abhay Singh Chautala's statement is concerned, such move of blocking Moonak canal will never happen as his party will never form any government in the state. Rest, people of Haryana know about the Congress. Hooda-led Congress government ruled the state for 10 years. What stopped it from doing welfare works during its tenure? We have completed 90% of the announcements of our election manifesto. We have ample time to complete the rest," said Khattar.
Referring to safe travel for girl students, the CM said enough arrangements had been made. "We have rationalized the schools. The education department has been told to hire buses for the safe transportation of girl students," he said.
