NOIDA: Four
security guards were detained after a safe containing Rs 18 lakh cash was stolen from the head office of a prominent developer in Sector 63 on Monday night. The robbery occurred at the office after all the employees had left.
Only four security guards were deployed at night due to which their role is under scanner.
Amit Kumar Singh, SHO of Phase III police station, said police were informed about the
theft on Tuesday morning.
“A team reached the office on Tuesday morning and found the safe with Rs 18 lakh cash missing. No other items in the office were damaged or stolen. They questioned the security guards deployed on
night duty but they could not come up with satisfactory answers,” he said. The officials then informed police and registered a complaint. Uday Raj, a field officer of the security agency, said the locks of doors were not broken. “The CCTV cameras on the premises were not functioning. There were four security guards at night duty but they failed to explain when asked about the theft,” he said. The four security guards have been detained over the issue. “We are thoroughly interrogating them in connection with the theft and also trying to access the CCTV footage from cameras installed around the premises to find the criminals,” Singh said.
The office was closed on Wednesday due to Independence Day. There were two security guards on the campus but they said they were off duty when the theft occurred.
The developer has not responded to a request for a comment.
