Mosimane: SuperSport must be patient with Tembo

2018-08-15 19:08

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has called on the management of SuperSport United to be patient with newly appointed coach Kaitano Tembo.

SuperSport recently announced Tembo as the club's new coach on a two-year deal, having worked as the caretaker coach since the departure of Eric Tinkler during the 2017/18 season.

Tembo, just like the Sundowns mentor, started his coaching journey at Matsatsantsa, first working as a scout before being given a role as the assistant coach.

The 48-year-old, who joined SuperSport in 1999, also played under Mosimane during his time in charge of the club.

The Zimbabwean has won two out of the club's three opening matches including a quarter-final win over Orlando Pirates in the MTN8.

"He must hang in there. They must give him a chance, the same chance they gave to Stuart Baxter. I remember we beat them 5-0 with Stuart and he was never removed," Mosimane told KickOff website.

"So, give Kaitano a chance also, like you gave Cavin Johnson a chance, like you gave Gordon (Igesund) a chance. So, they must give him a chance.

"For blacks sometimes, the guillotine is close to your neck. One loss, one draw and you say 'no we don't have confidence in this guy.

"It's important for me to fight for our local coaches. Anybody can come from Belgium or whatever and he gets 12 games, but our brothers here... you know the story of Chippa with Dan Malesela. It's very tough for the local coaches."
