In view of impending Lok Sabha polls, the Gujarat BJP will launch a massive statewide enrolment drive from Independence Day which would continue till August 21.

Talking about the enrolment drive, Gujarat BJP president Jitu Vaghani said that every three years the party undertook such initiative in the State to strengthen the BJP’s position. Vaghani would launch the drive from his hometown Bhavnagar. Other leaders of the saffron brigade would kick-start similar drives in other 32 districts across the State.

Spokesman of Gujarat BJP, Bharat Pandya said that the drive would increase workers’ base of the party in the State.

The party would reach out every section of the society irrespective of caste, creed, religion and profession, said Pandya. Over the past two decades, the saffron party is enjoying power in Gujarat. In the last Lok Sabha polls in 2014, the party had won all 26 seats in the State.

The BJP think tank and top leaders are putting everything to repeat similar performance in the State in the 2019 general elections.

Meanwhile, two OBC leaders of the BJP belonging to politically volatile Saurashtra region joined the Congress on Tuesday. Former MLA Shamji Chauhan and former mayor of Rajkot Ashok Dangar joined the oldest political party in the presence of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Chavda and Gujarat Congress in-charge Rajiv Satav.

Both the leaders blamed the BJP for ignoring OBC communities in the State. Chauhan was elected on BJP ticket from Chotila Assembly constituency in 2012.

He was not given ticket in the last Assembly polls and hence was not happy with the State BJP leadership.
