A helmet seller, Faizudeen, from Royapettah, however, has decided to do his bit in addressing this issue and has been giving branded ISI certified helmets with a 25 per cent discount to police personnel. This comes in a couple of weeks after higher officials ordered that policemen should lead by example and should always wear helmet while riding two-wheelers.
Faizudeen, who is in the helmet business for about 15 years, is already popular among police personnel as he has been part of their awareness campaigns about the importance of wearing helmets. He has also distributed helmets for free to traffic police and replaced torn and damaged helmets of working class community for as little as Rs 250.
Taking his initiatives further, he is planning to produce helmets for kids as they are more susceptible to be injured while riding pillion to school on bikes. As for his relationship with the police, Faizudeen also plans to introduce exclusively for police personnel with stickers to identify them.
With such sellers around, the police may soon run out of excuses for not wearing helmets anymore.
