Since 2017 the identities of the person or persons who provided journalists with a massive trove of emails that became known as the #GuptaLeaks have remained a closely guarded secret.
The tens of thousands of leaked emails lifted the veil on the inner workings of the Gupta family's empire and state capture. They included correspondence between members of the Gupta family and their closest confidants, Jacob Zuma's son Duduzane Zuma, top government officials, senior officials at defunct public relations firm Bell Pottinger and more.
On Wednesday afternoon, two of the people who leaked the emails to journalists will publicly speak via recorded message at The Gathering: Media Edition, hosted by Daily Maverick in partnership with 10X Investments.
The event is taking place at the Cape Town Convention Centre.
"They are here, living among us. They can't emerge out of the shadows just yet - but we can still ask them a few questions," states the event's website.
"In a pre-recorded interview, with identities masked, they share some of the insane stories of how the files made their way to Daily Maverick and how the collaboration with amaBhungane and News24 changed their lives forever."
Other speakers at the event include former DA Parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko, chairperson of Afrotone Media Holdings Mzwanele Manyi, Eskom whistleblower and the power utility's former head of legal and compliance, Suzanne Daniels, and Bianca Goodson, former head of Gupta-linked company Trillian turned whistleblower.
