10 more held for vandalising car last week

The Delhi Police has arrested 10 more persons for vandalising a car last week in Moti Nagar after the vehicle brushed past one of their kanwar friends.

According to the police on Monday, after scrutinizing CCTV footage and registers of nine Kanwars camp around and in the city, they were able to identify and arrest Yogesh (22) for allegedly being part of the group that vandalised the car on one of the busiest street in national Capital.

“During interrogation, Yogesh revealed the names of those who were with him. Aman is the main accused who got hit by the car. On the basis of information given by Yogesh all the nine other accused were arrested by police in last 24 hours,” said Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), West district.

“Most of the accused are residents of Najafgarh, Bindapur and Dwarka. Earlier we had arrested one accused, Rahul from Uttam Nagar on 9 August. So far police have arrested 11 men in connection with the incident,” said DCP.

The incident took place on August 7 on road near Moti Nagar when a Hyundai i10 car with a man and a woman brushed a kanwar that triggered altercation between kanwars and occupants in car. The agitated Kanwar pilgrims smashed the windows of the car with sticks and then toppling it.

In the video which had surfaced on internet after the incident it was clearly seen that over a dozen Kanwar pilgrims are smashing the windows of the car, which is stranded in the middle of the road, with sticks and then toppling it. All this while, two police officials and other bystanders continue to watch without attempting to stop them, as per the video.

A case was registered and the accused were identified on the basis of inquiries conducted by the police and the CCTV footage.
