Volkswagen is continuing its involvement in Formula Student Germany (FSG) in the next racing season and will once again sponsor selected university teams entering the international design competition. In future, the company will focus more strongly on the “Driverless” category than has previously been the case in order to bring the innovation areas of electric drive systems and autonomous driving even closer together. At the Hockenheimring, the company also recruits new career entrants. Trainees and interns who were active in Formula Student have repeatedly joined Volkswagen.
“The atmosphere at the Hockenheimring was fantastic,” said Prof. Dr. Stefan Gies, Head of the Mid-and Fullsize Series Group at Volkswagen and FSG Patron. “Each of the teams devoted a great deal of energy, passion and time to its racing car.”
Volkswagen will continue its team mentoring program with selected university racing teams in the next racing season. Gies: “In future, we will be focusing more strongly on the ‘Driverless’ category than has previously been the case with a view to bringing the innovation areas of electric drive systems and autonomous driving even closer together.” At the weekend, the e-gnition team from Hamburg University of Technology already took third place in the “Driverless” class.

Volkswagen supported the following teams: Bremergy (University of Bremen), DUT Racing Team (Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands), Ecurie Aix (RWTH Aachen University), e-gnitionTeam (TUHH – Hamburg University of Technology), HorsePower Team (University of Hanover) and Lions Racing Team (Brunswick University of Technology).
