THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
People's representatives of the BJP in Kerala would contribute their two weeks' salary to the
flood relief fund, BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai said here.
"Those who reached various positions under the Union government and those who were elected to various democratic bodies in the state would contribute their
two weeks' remuneration to the relief fund. They can either contribute their share to the CM's relief fund or hand over the same to Seva Bharathi which is actively engaged in relief and rehabilitation activities," Pillai told reporters.
Pillai claimed he was privy to several lapses on the part of the state government in the relief and rehabilitation work, but would not elaborate the same as bickering was not needed at this juncture of emergency. "But I would like to point out one thing that the state government should do its home work properly before presenting reports to the union government for financial assistance," he said.
Pillai also wanted the government to ensure that the financial contributions it receives from public for the relief and rehabilitation of the flood-hit people should be spend properly. "It should not meet with the same fate of Ockhi and Tsunani funds. Government should ensure that assistance really goes to the needy as a whole," he said.
Pillai also criticised the state government for its alleged failure in bringing Jalandhar bishop before the law. "He is facing rape charges. But the government is letting him to evade arrest. This is a serious negation of the rule of law," he said.
According to Sreedharan Pillai, he would declare new office bearers of BJP state committee in two weeks. "P P Mukundan is still a party member. If he should be assigned any post, it would be done after discussing the same with the central leadership," Pillai said when questions were raised about the possibility of BJP former organising secretary P P Mukundan coming back to leadership position.
