Mumbai Crime: 18-year-old arrested for slashing man over an argument on social media

Agripada police have arrested an 18-year-old boy for slashing a 21-year-old man with a knife after getting into an argument on social media app.

According to Hindustan Times, the accused has been identified as Moyuddin Shaikh and the victim was identified as Imran Khan who is a resident of Lady Ratan Complex, DS Road in Worli. Imran Khan and Moyuddin Shaikh got into a spat after Khan noticed that Shaikh had commented on one of Khan’s female cousin’s photos, which read gandi ladki. This comment annoyed Khan and he responded to Shaikh asking if he had a problem with his cousin.

Khan told leading daily, “Shaikh replied saying, that’s how he was and would continue to talk like that. He also sent me his mobile number and a smile emoji through a direct message on the app.” After which, Khan and Shaikh got into a verbal spat, during which Shaikh threatened Khan. Shaikh also asked Khan to come to Byculla to settle the matter, and on Monday Khan went to Byculla to have word with Shaikh, after which Khan told him to stop messaging his cousin. The conversation soon turned violent and fight turned physical.

After the fight turned physical Shaikh picked up a knife from a nearby vada pav stall and slashed Khan’s cheek and shoulder. Savlaram Agawane, senior police inspector of Agripada police station told leading daily, “We received a call at 6.30pm. On reaching the spot, Khan was rushed to the hospital and Shaikh was arrested.” Shaikh was later arrested and was presented before the court on Tuesday, who was later released on bond.
