On any working day between August 16 and August 23, government officials-employees in the state will be made to take pledge of compulsory voting under Voters Awareness Programme. Chief Election Officer of Chhattisgarh Subrat Sahoo has written letter to Chief Secretary of State Government Ajay Singh to administer pledge of compulsory voting to officials-employees in Government offices.

Sahoo states in the letter that Election Commission of India is of the opinion that in the upcoming election, all the officials-employees of state government and all their family members of age 18 years and above should be registered in the voters list so that they may enthusiastically exercise their right to vote.

Election Commission expects that in a democratic set-up, each government official-employee would understand their moral responsibility and go for voting with their family members, and will also encourage common people and disable voters to exercise their right to vote. Chief Election Officer has requested Chief Secretary to direct the officials concerned to organise pledge ceremony.
