THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state is going to witness acute shortage of
drinking water as many of the water treatments plants have either been damaged or have been flooded with water.
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has urged the water resources department officials to immediately intervene and make arrangements to supply water from the areas where floods have not been affected.
The chief minister has asked the people to limit the use of drinking water supplied by the Kerala Water Authority. Pampa, Bharatapuzha, Periyar and Chaliyar are the three major drinking water souces which have been affected due to the floods. The pump sets of the water authority have been damaged and most of the treatment plants have been damaged due to flood.
The water authority officials have been asked to collect water in tanks and transport it through boats to the relief camps and flooded areas of the state. The chief minister has asked to get more boats for this purpose and make use of it for supplying the drinking water to the worst hit areas.
The chief minister has asked the chief secretary to seek the help of neighbouring states if any help is needed from them. He said that all the chief ministers have offered support to the state.
