Drive against spurious liquor

The Excise Department has launched an intensive enforcement drive to check the manufacture, smuggling, and sale of spurious liquor, spirit, and narcotic substances in the district during the Onam season.

According to Excise Deputy Commissioner S. Muhammed Ubaid, the enforcement drive launched on August 1 will continue till August 31. Special teams have been constituted for the purpose. The district has been divided into four sectors with striking forces being formed in each. An intelligence wing, led by an excise inspector, has also commenced functioning. Shadow teams also functioned under the supervision of the Excise Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner.

Regular checks

Checks will be conducted at camps where migrant workers are accommodated. The police, food safety officials, revenue, and drug control officials will be made part of the drive. Raids will be conducted at check-posts to prevent smuggling of narcotic substances from Tamil Nadu. Deputy Collector John Samuel chaired a meeting conducted at the Collectorate to review the activities taken up as part of the drive.
