PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice recently hosted a thank you breakfast for state representatives who made possible the $10,000 legislative grant from the state of Rhode Island for funding of home telemonitors for chronically ill patients. Rep. John Edwards (Tiverton) was the lead legislator on sponsoring this grant, and he was supported by Rep. Susan Donovan (Bristol); Rep. Marvin Abney (Newport); Rep. Kenneth Mendonca (Portsmouth); and Rep. Dennis Canario (Tiverton/Little Compton).

At the breakfast, Edwards presented the check to Candace Sharkey, CEO of Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice.

Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice has about 60 patients on the telehealth program. With agency growth into Providence and Kent Counties, additional funding will be sought to expand the program.
