New Delhi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday launched the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) free Wi-Fi and Fibre-to-the-Home Digital Initiatives for New Delhi area.
Mr Singh launched the NDMC Wi-Fi and Fiber-to-the-Home facilities under the Smart City Mission of New Delhi at Charkha Park in Central Park of Connaught Place here.
Speaking after the launch of the initatitives, the Union Home Minister said the steps undertaken by NDMC in the area of digitisation so as to provide the better services and facilities to the people was a role model for other civic bodies across the nation and the other cities under the smart city category should follow the footprints of the council in that direction.
‘The happiness index was only a matter of discussion of developed countries. Now it is a matter of pride of our nation that the happiness area for wellness of every metropolitan people had become the ground realty, which had been made by NDMC in New Delhi area,’ Mr Singh said.
At the inaugural function, Mr Singh inaugurated the Smart Poles with free Wi-Fi, 360 degree cameras and environmental sensors, Solar Tree with the LED lights and mobile charging points, Ideation Centre for promoting Smart City Entrepreneurs, Two Hi-Tech Nurseries, Ambedkar Vatika as Happiness area initiatives and digital display panels with free-public Wi-Fi for Connaught Place.
He also flagged of four Mechanical Road Sweepers, Two Litter Picking Machines and Ten Auto Trippers under the Swachhta initiatives.
He also released a Coffee Table Book on Green Initiatives of NDMC titled “Green and Colourful NDMC – A Transformational Journey” on the occasion.
On the occasion, Union Minister of State for Communication (Independent Charge) and Railways Manoj Sinha said,’ it is a proud moment that Digital India and Smart City Mission integrated today in various initiative launched by NDMC and MTNL in a joint venture for New Delhi area.’
He said online or offline is the status of symbol in today life of every person and it will be felicititated by the government reliable network provided by Fibre-to-the-Home network.He informed that telecom footprint has been doubled and voice and data rate reduced for the common people by government.
Minister of State (I/C) for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri said NDMC was the leader of Flagship mission of the Housing and Urban Development Ministry as Smart City Mission.
He said that with the efforts of NDMC, the New Delhi area would be the nerve centre of the command and control of country’s Digital and Smart City Mission.
He hoped that NDMC is also the front runner of Swachhta Mission and NDMC and would get the first position in the next Swachhta Sarvekshan.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal said NDMC upgraded that Smartness of New Delhi area with providing Smart and Digital services and facilities to not only the citizen but also visitors or tourists coming from across the country or overseas.
