Once again firing a barrage of salvos at the BJP, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday told the State Assembly that it was a party which was anti-Bengal and that it was trying to vitiate the cultural ambience of the State.

Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, the Chief Minister called them men who had no respect for others’ cultures and that they were trying to vitiate the culture of Bengal too.

Speaking on behalf of 40 lakh people whose names have been struck off the NRC in Assam, Banerjee said “even I will not be able to produce the birth certificates of my parents. But for this I am not to be blamed.”

There should be a clear system about this. The layman cannot be expected to produce these things suddenly.”

The BJP was following an extremist ideology she said adding “playing politics of revenge among the country men is not healthy for Indian democracy.”

The BJP was “anti-Bengali and anti-Bengal” she said reminding “speaking Bengali is not a crime.

They are afraid of Bengali intellect and its culture. They are afraid of Bengali intellect and its culture because the culture practiced by them does not have any respect for those who speak Bengali, Hindi, Marathi or South Indian languages.”

On BJP’s avowal to invoke NRC in Bengal too if they come to power in this State, Banerjee said “we will resist any attempt to bring NRC in our State adding “already lakhs of people had come to India as refugees after Independence. Now the BJP wants to make them refugee again by invoking the NRC.”
