Four Kanwariyas were killed after being hit by a train on the Brahmani bridge, a few metres from the Panposh railway station in the city on Sunday night.

However, three others managed to escape unhurt.

Reports said seven Bol Bom devotees had come to Rourkela from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh to pour holy water at Vedvyas temple here. The deceased were identified as Nilesh Das, Jamuna Das, Lucky Das and Ram Barosa.

They were walking on a railway bridge on Brahmani river here around 11.30 pm when a train arrived. While three of them somehow managed to escape, the rest got hit by the moving train and fell into the river, leading to their death.

While bodies of two persons were recovered from the spot, two others fell into the river water. Later, ODRAF personnel launched a search operation and fished out the two bodies from the river.
