GREATER NOIDA: Local residents from Bodaki village on Monday held a protest at the SSP’s office in Surajpur seeking justice for the family of Sumit Bhati, who had died after being thrashed by seven people from the village on August 10. Protesters demanded the arrest of all accused and that Bhati’s family be provided police protection. On Sunday evening, police had arrested Sohit, the main accused, and later arrested Sohit’s father Kartar following the protest. Five other accused are still absconding.
Sachin Bhati, Sumit’s relative, told TOI that all the seven accused in the case more or less belong to the same family. “They are roaming around in the village freely, we demand immediate arrest of all the accused since they are criminals and they can attack our family members as well. We have also asked for police protection,” said Bhati.

Ashish Shrivastava, SP Rural, told TOI that two search parties are working on nabbing the rest of them. “We have assured the protection of the family. A police team stays in the village 24/7 to keep them out of danger,” Shrivastava added.
