PUNE: Heavy spells of rain were recorded in the catchments of four dams located in Khadakwasla irrigation circle in 24 hours ended on Tuesday morning.
Among the four, Temghar dam recorded maximum rainfall of 100 mm, while Varasgaon and Panshet recorded 26mm and 21mm rainfall respectively. With addition of 100 mm rainfall, the season’s collective rainfall in the catchments of Temghar increased to 2,960mm while rainfall in the catchments of Panshet and Varasgaon reached to 1700 mm.
Water stock in Temghar has been maintained at 2.15 TMC (57%). The state irrigation department has been releasing water from Temghar in to Khadakwasla at the rate of around 600
cusec. Stock in the dam is unlikely to reach the
maximum capacity due to the ongoing repair work.
Officials in the state irrigation department said that catchments of all four dams have recorded consistent rainfall in last one and half months. Heavy spells of rain started in the first week of July and have continued till the second week of August prompting release of water from Temghar and Panshet. Officials said that they would not stop the release of water from both the dams till the intensity of rains in catchments reduces. Officials said that water released from both dams was flowing in to Mutha river and further up to Ujani dam.
