Currency crisis: Rupee breaches 70 mark against USD

The Indian rupee continues to fall and touches a new low on Tuesday. Rupee breached 70-mark for the first time against US dollar. Rupee was trading at 70.08 during intra-day trading. Rupee hit the new low in five years after rout in Turkish currency Lira. In 2018, rupee has slipped 9 per cent, the worst performing Asian currency. Rupee is also among the worst hit Asian currencies after Turkey-led sell-off in emerging assets. However, the equity markets in India were holding-up.
