Following last week’s premature launch, Ford has officially released the configurator for the 2019 Ranger.
As expected, the truck starts at $24,300 which makes it significantly more expensive than rivals such as the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon and Nissan Frontier. Despite costing thousands of dollars more than key competitors, the entry-level Ranger XL SuperCab comes sparsely equipped as it features a black grille, a black plastic front bumper and 16-inch steel wheels.
The interior is similarity basic as drivers will find cloth bucket seats, a black vinyl floor covering and a four-speaker AM/FM audio system. On the bright side, the truck does have air conditioning, power windows and a relatively basic infotainment system with a 3.5-inch display. The model also features a pre-collision assist system with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and dynamic brake support.
The mid-level Ranger XLT starts at $27,940 and it features a more upscale exterior with body-color bumpers, fog lights and rear privacy glass. The truck also comes equipped with 17-inch aluminum wheels.
The upgrades continue in the cabin as drivers will find an auto-dimming rearview mirror, color-coordinated carpeting and a SYNC infotainment system. Other highlights include a 110V AC power outlet, a FordPass Connect 4G Wi-Fi modem and a 4.2-inch color display in the instrument cluster. The model also has a USB charging port, a six-speaker audio system and a remote keyless-entry system.
The Ranger XLT comes standard with the Co-Pilot360 suite of driver assistance systems. It includes a blind spot information system, rear cross-traffic alert, a lane-keeping system and automatic high-beam headlights.
The range-topping Ranger Lariat starts at $32,210 and it is distinguished by a chrome grille, body-color door handles and LED lighting units. The model also has 18-inch aluminum wheels with a two-tone design.
Drivers will sit behind a leather-wrapped steering wheel and find a dual-zone automatic climate control system as well as a SYNC 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch display. The model also comes equipped with heated 8-way power front seats, a universal garage door opener and an intelligent access system with a push-button ignition.
An assortment of different options will be available including four-wheel drive which costs between $4,000 and $4,160 – depending on the trim. A SuperCrew variant is also available for between $2,175 and $2,220.
Regardless of which model is selected, all 2019 Rangers will be powered by a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that is connected to a ten-speed automatic transmission. Ford still hasn’t released performance specifications, but we’ll likely learn more closer to the truck’s launch early next year.
