London: Car crashes into barriers outside Houses of Parliaments; perp arrested

A car crashed into the security barricades outside the Houses of Parliament in on Tuesday, leaving several pedestrians injured.

"At this stage, officers do not believe that anybody is in a life-threatening condition," the police tweeted.

Two individuals were treated for minor injuries by the Ambulance Services, while the underground in the vicinity was closed, the informed.

"I heard some noise, and someone screamed. I turned around and I saw a driving from the crossing, very fast and close to the railings, maybe even on the pavement," an eyewitness at the scene told

"The car drove at speed. There was a loud bang from the collusion and a bit of smoke. The did not get out. The guards started screaming to people to move away. One elderly man rushed me to hide behind a monument, just in case," she added.

Authorities are presently uncertain if the incident was related to terror.

Security was beefed up in the area following the Westminster Bridge attack in March 2017, wherein four people were killed by a 52-year-old British man Khalid Masood, who slammed a car into the pavement on the iconic bridge. Masood also stabbed a in the incident.
