Agitating students today lifted their two-day long demonstration outside the office of the acting Vice-Chancellor Sabujkali Sen at Visva Bharati University here, officials said.
The students who could not pass examinations at various departments were agitating outside the office of the VC demanding that supplementary examination be held for those who failed in the examinations.
The students withdrew their stir after Sen made it clear that as per the Act and Statute of the university an unsuccessful candidate cannot sit for any Supplementary Test just to secure pass marks.
"Moreover as the officiating VC I cannot introduce any new system of evaluation," she told reporters during an interaction at her office.
The agitating students tried to disrupt normal working at the office of the VC by locking in the main entrance since Monday afternoon, she said.
One of the agitators, however, claimed that the demonstration was withdrawn after getting verbal assurance from the authorities to sympathetically consider their demand.
"There have been enough instances of taking supplementary examination and our demand is not illogical," the agitator said.
