Brad Lloyd set to be Carlton's new head of football
Carlton have decided on their new head of football, with Fremantle list manager Brad Lloyd set to take the position.
The Age understands that after an extensive search, the Blues have decided that Lloyd is the best fit.
It means there will be two Lloyds as head of football in the AFL, with Brad's brother Simon in charge at Geelong.
Lloyd will replace departing Blues football manager Andrew McKay who announced last month he would be finishing up in the role at the end of the season.
McKay, the champion Blues' defender, had been in the role for seven seasons and wanted to explore other opportunities in football.
Lloyd's father John played 29 games with Carlton between 1965-67 while Simon captained the Blues under-19s before playing in a premiership with Williamstown.
Carlton are well down the path of a major rebuild with the club having won just two games this season however they have recently re-signed exciting youngsters Patrick Cripps and Charlie Curnow and should improve next season after being hard-hit by injuries in 2018.
Lloyd has been instrumental in putting together a strong core of talented youngsters at Fremantle in recent seasons with Adam Cerra and Andrew Brayshaw added last season to a list that contains Ed Langdon, Luke Ryan, Darcy Tucker, Sean Darcy, Bailey Banfield and Alex Pearce.
He also selected Brownlow medallist and captain Nat Fyfe with pick 20 in the 2009 national draft.
The Blues have seen significant change in recent seasons under third-year coach Brendon Bolton with the club employing Cain Liddle as CEO and turning over 42 players in three seasons.
They appear to have softened their stance in recent weeks in relation to applying for a priority pick and Lloyd's view on the question may be significant.
