Two dead, road closed after two-car crash west of Brisbane

Two people have died and another has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a two-car crash west of Brisbane.

Police have closed the road as investigations into the crash continue and said they expect the closure to be in place for an "extensive period" with "lengthy delays expected".

The crash happened just after midday on Surat Developmental Road near Tara, about 285 kilometres west of Brisbane.

The Queensland Ambulance Service said one patient was airlifted to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious condition, with pelvic and ankle injuries.
