Road closed, patients critically injured in crash west of Brisbane

Multiple patients are in serious and critical conditions after a two-car crash west of Brisbane.

A rescue helicopter has been called to the scene and the road has been closed with "lengthy delays expected", according to the Queensland Police Service.

The crash happened just after midday on Surat Developmental Road near Tara, about 285 kilometres west of Brisbane, and police expect the road closure to be in place for "an extensive period".

Paramedics were assessing multiple patients for serious to critical injuries.
