NEW DELHI:
Delhi government on Tuesday
approved the
heart surgery of former chief minister
Sheila Dikshit at a hospital in France under the
DGHS scheme.
The four-member expert panel appointed by health minister Satyendar Jain revalidated her health records sent by Dr Ashok Seth, chairman, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, paving the way for her travel and treatment at the state’s expenses. Dr Seth had advised that the procedure be performed at the University Hospital of Lille in north France.
The expert panel, comprising the DGHS director general, principal of University College of Medical Sciences, dean of Maulana Azad Medical College and special secretary of health and family welfare department, was formed on the direction of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for quick disposal of Dikshit’s application.
Sources said Dikshit will be the second Delhi legislator after former Delhi Congress chief Ram Babu Sharma to get treatment abroad at the state’s expense.
Dikshit had earlier proposed to fly to Lille on August 12 as her surgery was scheduled for August 14. Her travel dates are now being reworked, sources added.
