43 houses partially damaged, fields destroyed in Udupi

Sea erosion too reported in some parts of the district

As many as 43 houses were partially damaged, while some fields got destroyed in Udupi district due to rain accompanied by gusty winds on Tuesday.

Sea erosion has also been reported in some parts of the district.

According to the information made available by the district administration, 22 houses were partially damaged in Udupi taluk and the loss was estimated at ₹ 4 lakh, while three houses were damaged in Kaup taluk and the loss was put at ₹ 50,000.

As many as 11 houses were damaged in Kundapur taluk and the loss was estimated at ₹ 1.5 lakh, while seven houses were damaged in Karkala taluk and the loss was estimated at ₹ 90,000.

According to the Kundapur Taluk Office, four houses and some fields were damaged at Madamakki village. A cow shed was damaged at Basrur village, while a house each was damaged at Anagalli and Belur.

Electricity poles

According to Karkala Tahsildar Mohammed Asif, three houses each were partially damaged in Karkala and Hebri taluks after trees fell on them. Eight electricity poles were damaged after trees fell on an power line in Karkala, he said.

Meanwhile, sea erosion has been reported in places such as Kaup, Hejmady and Uppunda in the district.

On account of continuous rainfall on Monday and the Met Department predicting heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in the next 24 hours, the district administration has declared holiday on Tuesday.

In the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Monday, Udupi received 80.3 mm rainfall, while Kundapur and Karkala towns received 74.2 mm and 96.2 mm rainfall, respectively.
