After much deliberations and politics on the issue, the State Government has finally selected a place for construction of the new Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) of Haldwani. In a meeting of transport department held at Vidhan Sabha on Monday, chaired by the State Transport Minister Yashpal Arya, a place near the Open University Haldwani was selected for the mega project. It was decided in the meeting that ISBT would be set up on a plot of 10 hectare of land and the roadways workshop situated in Haldwani city would also be shifted here.

In the meeting, the Ministerdirected the officials to make the project based on the requirement of the city on a long-term perspective. He also said that the process of acquiring the forest land should be expedited.

To earmark the place to house the Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Haldwani, the State Government had set up a committee. The committee on May 17 had submitted its report to the transport, social welfare and minority affairs Minister Yashpal Arya. The committee headed by the  managing director Transport had identified three places-Global land cooperative private limited, Nova steel Kamalwa Gaza, near Forest Training Centre and near Open University Haldwani as probable places where ISBT could be set up.

Citing religious reasons, the State Cabinet in December last year had cancelled work on ISBT near International sports stadium in Gaulapar area of Haldwani. The Congress leader Indira Hridayesh had questioned the intention of the Government to shift the place of Haldwani.

The meeting was attended among others by the secretary transport Shailesh Bagoli, additional secretary transport H C Semwal, additional transport commissioner Sunita Singh, ADM Nainital Harvir Singh and RTO Dehradun Dinesh Chandra Pathoi.
