NOIDA: Nearly 4,000 auto-rickshaw drivers of Noida-Ghaziabad holding NCR permits have threatened to intensify their agitation from August 18 demanding a fresh inter-state agreement to allow autos of UP, Haryana and Delhi to ferry commuters across these states.
The auto drivers of UP have been seeking extension of their permits for the past five months as their permits are expiring two months before the legitimate date of October 13. An agreement reached among the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh in October 2008 facilitated unrestricted movement of contract carriages, such as autos, taxis, and other vehicles across NCR. However, permits were issued to auto drivers in NCR only in 2014.

RTO (Ghaziabad) Ajay Tripathi said the UP transport department had taken cognisance of the protests and written to the NCR planning board to hold a meeting and decide on another agreement.
