Thiruvananthapuram: Over 1,000 support staff received Onakkodi from their techie colleagues on Monday, as part of the Onam celebrations at Techopark here. eWIT vice-president Radhika Viswanathan said much more have been planned for the support staff as a token of gratitude. “We are planning to provide training to the children of support staff. Graduates will be provided sessions to prepare them for interviews. Their communication and basic computer skills will be brushed up at a one-day programme,” Viswanathan said.

Second edition of city’s first flea market ‘Olam’ began at Technopark on Monday as part of its Onam celebrations. Several vendors have opened stalls on club house premises for the two-day event.

Floral carpets will be arranged and games such as tug of war and cultural programmes including thiruvathirakkali will be held on Thursday as part of ‘Orumayude Onam’ organized by Natana, the cultural club of Technopark.

Prathidhwani, another organization of techies, has already started a ‘rice bucket challenge’, which aims at providing rice grains to support staff and people in flood-affected areas. As per the challenge, techies have to contribute minimum 5kg packets of grains in the buckets placed in front of major buildings inside Technopark. Mayor V K Prasanth inaugurated the event last Monday. Last year, around 6.5 tonnes of rice was collected this way. This year, the target is 10 tonnes of rice. tnn
