'The man's first thought was to run'
Detective Inspector Stuart McGregor has described the man as "despicable". He said witnesses came to the aid of both the cyclist and the driver. Police said the man gathered his belongings from the car, then fled.
"His first thought was to run. It wasn't to help, it wasn't to stop, it wasn't to think about the poor person he's hit. It was to run."
Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Hit-run driver still on run
Police are still looking for this man after a hit and run that killed a 27-year-old Dutch woman in South Yarra yesterday morning.
The man was allegedly driving a stolen Mercedes sedan when he clipped several parked cars and struck the woman, who was riding a bike, about 10am on Chapel Street.
After being helped from his vehicle by bystanders, he ran off. The female cyclist died at the scene.
Good morning
Hello. It's Monday. Start of the working week for some. Almost 12 degrees in the city now ahead of a showery top of 15.
Minor delays already on the Glen Waverley line thanks to an earlier equipment fault. Elsewhere, there are works alerts again for Cranbourne and Pakenham, with buses replacing trains on parts of the lines.
