An unidentified man opened fire at JNU student Umar Khalid outside Constitution Club in New Delhi on Monday. Mr. Khalid escaped unhurt, police said.
Police said that at 2 p.m., the JNU student reached Constitution Club to attend an event titled ‘Towards A Freedom Without Fear.’ When Mr. Khalid was entering the premises, a man appeared from the crowd and aimed a pistol towards Mr. Khalid.
Eyewitnesses said that the man opened fire but the bullet missed the target. However, police said the man whipped out a pistol but didn't open fire.
“We are checking CCTVs installed at the gate of Constitution club to identify the attacker,” said a police official. The incident was in a high security area just ahead of Independence Day, when security is tightened in Delhi.
