Liquor worth Rs1.75 lakh seized in Gadchiroli

Nagpur: Gadchiroli police have seized a liquor consignment worth Rs1.75 lakhs arresting an alleged bootlegger, identfied as Kartick Parad, on Saturday. Parad’s car was intercepted by Local Crime branch (LCB) of Gadchiroli police on the road between Desaiganj and Armori on Saturday.
A LCB squad, under PI Pradeep Chaugaonkar, following an input, has managed to seize the substantial illegal consignment which was being smuggled into the district where liquor has been prohibited by an order of the state government. Police said Parad was ferrying the consignment, comprising 25 cartons having 1,500 bottles of liquor in them, in the car.

The LCB squad already was tipped off regarding the registration number of the vehicle in which the liquor consigment was supposed to be taken to Armori. After intercepting the car, the consignment of the liquor was found in the dickey and also under the backseat of the vehicle.

LCB has later registered an offence at Armori police station. Apart from Parad, the offence was also registered against one of his accomplices, Swapnil Wankhede, for being part of the racket. The car, in which the consignment was found, had been also seized by police.

SP, Gadchiroli, Shailesh Balkawade has made an appeal before the alert citizens to share information about illegal liquor on 07132-223174 so as to facilitate cops take action and enforce the prohibition order in the district.
